Samrat Mukherjee, a Baton Rouge man who pretended to be a doctor for over three years from May 2019 to November 2022, pleaded guilty on March 10, 2025, to the federal offense of false statements relating to healthcare matters. Mukherjee was a licensed paramedic with Acadian Ambulance Service Inc., but he had never received any formal training that would have made him eligible to work in that capacity.

Per a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Louisiana, during his employment at Acadian Ambulance Service, Mukherjee lied to his co-workers and friends about being a “licensed medical doctor.” Furthermore, the accused also forged several documents to reinforce his web of lies, including a fake medical degree and a fake residency match letter.
Mukherjee also attended a celebration for a medical school graduation, even though he had never attended any such school. The accused was granted physician access to several hospitals and often attended to patients in the intensive care unit.
