ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Zoo recently welcomed four baby moose calves and a caribou calf. The animals, less than a month old, are all orphans that were brought to the zoo by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
“They are the ones who determine if a moose calf is truly orphaned or not,” said Zoo Curator Sam Lavin. “They try everything they can to reunite with their mom and if that’s not possible, that’s when they pick them up and bring them to us.”
Right now, the four moose calves are still in the zoo infirmary, but visitors can see them in the infirmary yard when they are being bottle fed, which happens several times a day…
