EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public about a scam targeting people who have had family members recently in custody.
The sheriff’s office said these reports pose as callers being bail bondsmen, or members with the sheriff’s office, and claim there is a state-funded deferral program which is available to help release their loved one from jail. As part of the fake program, several payment packages are offered ranging from $1,500 to $1,800.
