GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A line of strong storms rushed across West Michigan Thursday night, leading to more power outages even as many were still without service following storms the previous night.
Storms move through West Michigan
As of about 11:30 p.m., about 54,000 Consumers Energy customers around the state were without service, the utility’s interactive map showed. Barry, Ionia and Kent counties were among the hardest-hit:

Great Lakes Energy’s outage map reported about 4,100 of its customers without power, including about 450 in Allegan County and about 900 in Barry County as of about 11:30 p.m.
Indiana Michigan Power had about 3,250 customers without power in Berrien County, about 800 in Cass County and about 1,500 in St. Joseph County as of about 11:30 p.m.
Along Whitneyville Court off Whitneyville Avenue north of 84th Street in Caledonia Township, News 8 saw firefighters responding to a tree down on a power line, which sparked a small fire. The owner of the nearby home was unharmed, though he said some of his siding may have been damaged by the fire.
