PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – The Escambia County Animal Search and Rescue Team conducts hands-on training every month to keep their skills sharp in case of emergency.
The team is FEMA certified and can be deployed in several situations like hurricanes, tornadoes and floods.
“Out there in the real world is more chaotic. You are kind of jumping on the fly, trying to figure out what you’re doing so that’s why better to have all that training and muscle memory to be able to do that stuff,” said Kevin Monfreda, deputy director of Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare.
The team goes through several different exercises like rescuing an animal that’s trapped on a porch during a flood or a tethered rescue where someone goes in to save an animal that fell in the water.
