LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Dangerous conditions could be present at two spots on Lake Mohave as tests have confirmed toxic blooms.
Nelson’s Landing and Cottonwood Cove on the Nevada shore of Lake Mohave have both been the sites of recent positive tests for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), according to National Park Service officials.
It’s the second warning this year at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The year’s first HAB occurred in mid-March at Government Wash on Lake Mead.
The blooms are common, but toxins produced by Microcystis — a blue-green bacteria — can be deadly to dogs and other animals. Park officials urge visitors to limit body contact with water in the area when algae is present…
