AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – With 58 shooting victims through May, 20 more than this time last year, and more than 700 firearms related calls for service, according to the city’s crime dashboard, Akron on Friday announced an effort to help address violence by intervening before it ever happens.
Mayor Shammas Malik and community partners announced the launch of PIVOT (Partnership for Intervention, Violence Outreach and Transformation), a new city–funded Community Violence Intervention (CVI) program designed to connect victims of gun violence with immediate support, trauma-informed care and long-term community resources.
