(Grand Rapids, MI) — Severe weather blasted west Michigan for a second straight night Thursday, triggering a tornado watch for most of the area that expired just before midnight. A radar-confirmed tornado happened ten-miles north of Hastings at 9:33 p.m. and the National Weather Service will investigate the damage from that. Two small fires were also started when trees fell on power lines in Zeeland in the area of Jefferson Street and Garfield Avenue along with in Caledonia Township along Whitneyville Court north of 84th Street.
Tornado sirens were activated in Ottawa and Kent counties. Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and use caution when traveling.
