HARRISBURG, Pa. — With Pennsylvania’s June 30 budget deadline less than three weeks away, lawmakers in Harrisburg are hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s budget negotiations — which left the Commonwealth without a state budget until early November.
Even if negotiations stall, some state agencies won’t have to wait for their funding thanks to several funding bills signed by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. The appropriations bills focus mainly on oversight and consumer advocacy, and mark what Shapiro’s office called the “first pieces of budget legislation” passed for fiscal year 2026-27.
“Today I signed into law the first pieces of budget legislation for the next year — ensuring we continue to process licenses and certificates quickly, support our retirees and fund the agencies who serve hardworking Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said in a statement. “This is the first step toward a final budget, and we will continue to have productive conversations with the House and Senate to deliver for the Commonwealth.”…
