City lawmakers urge mayor to fight for taxing Syracuse University student center

Syracuse, N.Y. ― Mayor Sharon Owens’ administration is still weighing whether to appeal last week’s court ruling that said the city cannot collect property taxes on part of Syracuse University’s main student center.

But the city’s lawmakers want the mayor and the public to know where they stand.

The Syracuse Common Council may vote Monday on a resolution urging the administration to pursue an appeal of the June 5 Appellate Division-Fourth Department decision that said SU’s Schine Student Center should be fully exempt from property taxes…
