Iowa appeals court upholds Renard Winfield’s murder conviction

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Court of Appeals filed this week to not overturn Renard Winfield Jr.’s first-degree murder conviction.

Winfield, of Gary, Indiana, is currently serving a life sentence in prison for the shooting death of Tommy Curry in Iowa City in 2021. A jury convicted him in December of 2024.

Winfield appealed his case, arguing that the state failed to present enough evidence that he was the shooter. Judges with the appeals court says there was enough evidence presented by the state and agreed with the 2024 conviction…
