SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — If you commute through the west side of Salt Lake City, you’re likely familiar with the construction on I-215, leading drivers to travel a bumpy path and navigate cones on the freeway since November.
On Friday, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced that it is halfway through its construction project, and traffic will be switching onto the brand-new pavement on Saturday.
According to a press release from UDOT, beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, crews will begin shifting traffic to the newly rebuilt pavement between SR-201 and I-80. There will be overnight lane closures and changing traffic patterns as this is completed.
“Keeping traffic moving while rebuilding a freeway is always a challenge, but this milestone shows the progress we’re making,” UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart is quoted as saying. “By shifting traffic to one side of I-215, we were able to give crews the space they needed to work safely and efficiently while keeping the freeway open. As drivers move onto the new pavement, we ask them to slow down and stay alert because this remains an active work zone.”…
