Six months after a deadly shooting by Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were trying to arrest an attempted bank robbery suspect in the parking lot of the Leesburg Walmart, the investigation is still underway.
Conner James Peltzer, 30, of Sterling was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Compass Creek Walmart on Jan. 6, 2026, when undercover LCSO deputies and FBI agents who had been tracking him boxed him in, according to the LCSO. Peltzer was accused of walking into a Sterling Bank of America the previous day and telling an employee that he had placed a bomb in the building. He left without receiving anything and the bank was cleared by law enforcement.
