U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana concealed in a commercial truck at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo on Tuesday.
Officers discovered the drugs after a shipment manifested as “chocolate” showed irregularities during a nonintrusive examination. The truck and trailer were escorted to an inspection area where officers conducted a physical search and found vacuum-sealed packages inside multiple cardboard boxes.
The inventory revealed 56 boxes containing suspected marijuana, which field-tested positive. The estimated street value of the seizure is approximately $4 million.
