Buffalo Juneteenth prepares to celebrate 50th anniversary

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The 50th anniversary Buffalo Juneteenth celebration is this weekend, a benchmark that has been built on decades of persistence, heritage, and tradition.

That includes Saturday morning’s parade.

“A lot of people don’t know that we usually didn’t have a parade that lasted four or five hours, we usually didn’t have sponsorship from all of the government officials, the businesses, the other organizations, there used to be a time when the board members themselves would put their own houses up just to get enough money to have a Juneteenth festival, and now all over the world, people are talking about the City of Buffalo and Buffalo’s Juneteenth festival,” Buffalo Juneteenth Vice President Ras Jomo Akono said…
