How to Be an Artist: An Evening of Memoir and Jazz at The Caz in South Buffalo

Something special is happening on Seneca Street at The Caz, 2221 Seneca Street. On Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, actor Patrick Gallo and jazz pianist George Caldwell are presenting How to Be an Artist, a performance blending spoken memoir with elegant jazz piano.

Gallo, who grew up in Buffalo, will share stories from his 40-year acting career in New York City and Hollywood. Producer Mark Goldman says that “any and all Buffalonians interested in the stories of our city and the people who fill them” will enjoy this program.

The Caz is worth knowing about if you have not yet visited. Built in 1921 as a South Side bank, the building is architecturally inspired by Louis Sullivan’s signature “jewel box” designs, featuring Art Nouveau terracotta ornamentation, stained-glass windows, and terrazzo flooring, all beautifully restored to become one of South Buffalo’s most distinctive listening rooms. The venue’s mission is rooted in the revitalization of Seneca Street, offering a welcoming space where live music and dining come together.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., performance at 7:00 p.m., with food and drinks available throughout. For tickets and information, visit thecazbuffalo.com.

HOW TO BE AN ARTIST is a 90-minute autobiographical coming-of-age journey and artistic discovery — funny, warm, smart, and deeply touching. From Buffalo’s Italian West Side to the bright lights of New York City, Gallo shares a heartfelt and humorous path of dreams, music, identity, and artistic pursuit…
