PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two men died after being pulled from Lake Michigan during a water emergency in Ottawa County on Saturday.
Just before 1:15 p.m., deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) responded to reports of people struggling in the water near the south pier of the Pigeon Lake Channel in Port Sheldon Township, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bystanders tried to rescue the men before emergency responders arrived, but were unsuccessful, officials said.
When deputies and other responding agencies arrived, they were able to remove the distressed swimmers from the water and immediately began lifesaving measures. Despite the efforts, two victims were pronounced dead.
