LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A memo from Mason’s City Manager Deborah Stuart reports a developer plans to pursue annexation of nearly 400 acres of farmland into the city of Mason in order to build a $1 billion data center.
“Based on information provided by the Township during discussions, the developer intends to pursue annexation directly through the statutory process,” Stuart wrote in a memo contained in the June 15 Mason City Council packet. “Should City Council action become necessary prior to review by the State Boundary Commission, the matter will be brought forward for Council consideration.”
Mason had voted last month to attempt to negotiate a tax and land sharing deal with the township. The deal is called a 425 Agreement, and both municipalities would share in the tax revenues generated by any economic development created in the shared boundaries…
