Delaware Park found itself near the epicenter of the horse racing world on Saturday, as it handled its most betting traffic in history during Delaware Derby Day.
The Stanton oval hosted six stakes races, included two graded stakes with long histories, but it was the 2nd rendition of the Delaware Derby which sparked a nice crowd, and plenty of online wagering into the mutuel pools.
A record $8.6 million were bet between the 12 races, shattering last year’s record of $6.7 million set during a 10-race Derby card. Delaware was already past that mark after the 10th race Saturday…
