Rockford welcomes athletes for AAU District Qualifier at newly renovated Clarence Hicks Sports Complex

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Rockford is welcoming more than 1,300 young athletes this weekend as the Clarence Hicks Sports Complex hosts the AAU District Qualifier, an early step on the road to the AAU Junior Olympics later this summer.

It’s the first major meet since the newly renovated complex reopened. While the venue hosted a handful of high school and middle school meets during the season, this is the largest event the facility has seen so far, with full days of competition scheduled for Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th.

Early reviews of the stadium have been strong, according to Rockford Park District Youth Sports Manager Lamont Jones. “It feels good when you hear other track experts say Rockford did it right,” Jones said. “And they just love this facility.”…
