Legal aid groups across Ohio said federal cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program contained in House Resolution 1 are already reducing participation and benefits.
Joshua Goodwin, health and public benefits managing attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Southeast and Central Ohio, said it is becoming more difficult in Columbus and surrounding counties to access SNAP because paperwork requirements have increased dramatically.
“It’s just slowing down the process, leading to a lot more people being denied SNAP in the first place,” Goodwin observed. “With the new work requirements that went into place, we’ve already seen a large number of people lose SNAP who never had a work requirement in the past.”…
