Three Michigan men share stories of wrongful conviction at Cooley Law School

LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – Three Michigan men took the spotlight at Cooley Law School in Lansing today, sharing stories of their wrongful conviction and exoneration.

Dell Crawford, along with George and Melvin DeJesus, spent a combined 67 years in prison for crimes they did not commit. Thanks to the Cooley Law School Innocence Project, all three were exonerated and given the opportunity to speak out about their experiences today.

Brothers reunited after 25 years

George DeJesus said the day of exoneration was the first time he saw his brother in 25 years.

“All that time away from my family and my brother and knowing my brother’s suffering the same fate as me — I wasn’t happy about that,” George DeJesus said. “The day I was happy is when we were exonerated. That’s when I finally got to see him in the courtroom. That was the first time I laid eyes on him in 25 years.”…
