Sunshine returns, but severe storms loom for midweek

Much-needed sunshine on Sunday allowed us to begin the drying-out process. Clear skies were a welcome sight after the flooding rains that moved through the area this weekend.

Springfield picked up more than three and a half inches of rain, while some locations, including Hartville, received more than six inches. Thankfully, we will remain rain-free at the start of the week.

Temperatures on Monday will be fairly similar to what we experienced on Sunday. Expect highs to climb into the upper 70s under mostly sunny skies with a light breeze out of the north.

Tuesday will bring temperatures just a few degrees warmer as the summer humidity remains at bay. It is worth noting that there is a slight chance of an isolated shower during the daytime hours; however, most people should stay dry.

A major pattern change arrives on Wednesday as both the heat and humidity return in full force. Highs will surge into the lower 90s, accompanied by oppressive dew points and gusty southerly winds.

While the daytime hours will be hot and humid, storms are expected to arrive overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a relatively rare Day 4 Enhanced Risk for severe weather across a large portion of Missouri, signaling the potential for another round of dangerous storms…
