MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – As some of Wisconsin’s best high school softball teams battled for a state championship this weekend, the WIAA also celebrated a milestone moment in the sport’s history.
This year marked the 50th annual WIAA State Softball Tournament, a tradition that began in 1976 with one team making history.
That season, Madison West, led by head coach Sue McDermott, won the first-ever WIAA State Softball Championship, defeating Elmwood 27–8.
