Brothers experience IRONMAN Rockford from opposite sides of competition

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford returned Sunday for its second year, bringing athletes from across the country to compete in one of the biggest endurance races in the region.

While hundreds swam, biked and ran their way through the 70.3-mile course, one family experienced race day from two very different perspectives.

Tom McGovern competed in his ninth half IRONMAN this weekend, while his older brother Greg McGovern spent the day helping athletes as part of the medical team.

Tom says he spent roughly 16 weeks specifically training for Sunday’s race, but endurance sports have become part of his everyday life…
