Dangerous Flooding Could Trap Residents Across Houston – Officials Issue Urgent Warning as 8 Inches of Rain Threatens Southeast Texas

Southeast Texas residents are being urged to take immediate precautions as a prolonged and potentially life-threatening flood threat grips the Houston–Galveston region through Wednesday morning.

A Flood Watch is currently in effect across the entire region, with forecasters expecting multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are widespread — but isolated areas could see 6 to 8 inches or more. The danger, officials say, is not one single storm, but wave after wave of heavy rain hitting the same locations before the ground can absorb it.

Cities under the watch include:

  • Livingston, Bay City, Victoria and surrounding areas
  • Houston, Galveston, Sugar Land, Katy, Conroe
  • College Station, Huntsville, Brenham, Liberty

Rivers, bayous, and creeks across the region are expected to rise rapidly as rainfall accumulates. Urban areas — especially neighborhoods near drainage systems — face serious risk of street flooding during both morning and evening commutes over the next several days.

Major highways including Interstate 10, Interstate 45, U.S. 59, and the Grand Parkway could become hazardous as intense rain reduces visibility and submerges low-lying stretches of road. Emergency managers are urging all drivers to avoid flooded roadways entirely. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown…
