FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Wednesday, June 17th due to the potential for strong to severe storms, including heavy rain, large hail, high wind, and isolated tornadoes. The main risk timeframe is from about 2p to 11p.
Before digging into that risk, let’s talk about the short-term forecast: Lows tonight will be comfortable, falling into the mid 50s with highs back in the mid and upper 70s by Tuesday afternoon. A quick front is expected to slide through between 4p and 8p Tuesday, bringing a round of rain and potentially gusty conditions with it. The severe risk is low, but not impossible, so be sure to secure any loose outdoor belongings just in case!
Now for Wednesday: Though uncertainty remains, and the threat is highly conditional, we could see a round of severe weather midweek. A nearby warm front would provide fuel for intense thunderstorm activity across a large chunk of the Midwest, including Northern Indiana and Ohio. However, the positioning of this front, and extent of any earlier storm activity, will make a big difference between a sizeable severe threat and typical June storms.
I think all severe weather risks are possible given the right circumstances: heavy rain/flooding, high wind (60 mph+), large hail, and isolated tornadoes.…
