An Elayn Hunt Correctional Center correctional officer was arrested Monday after he was caught with cocaine-laced paper and a loaded gun at the facility, marking the 13th arrest of a current or former employee of the facility this year.
According to Warden Travis Day, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested Cadet Jaunya Spiller, 30, after a body scan prior to his shift revealed he had a cellphone and drug-laced paper. Authorities then searched Spiller’s car and found a loaded gun.
Spiller, who was hired in March, was first questioned by Elayn Hunt Investigators as a result of an ongoing investigation that began in May, his arrest warrant said. Spiller was found with three blank sheets of paper, two of which tested positive for cocaine.
