Beach hazards statement in effect for Bay Area beaches

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A beach hazards statement is in effect for the entirety of the Bay Area coastline until 5 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service is warning of an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents due to a long-period southerly swell.

The greatest threat, according to the NWS, is along south and southwest facing beaches. Dangerous conditions are forecast along the shoreline between Tuesday and Thursday.

The NWS is advising people to stay off jetties, piers, rocks and other water infrastructure.

“Never turn your back on the ocean!” the NWS said in a tweet.

Coastal flood advisory

A coastal flood advisory is also in effect along the San Francisco Bay shore until 5 a.m. Thursday and along with Pacific Coast through 5 a.m. Wednesday. The warning impacts locations along the San Pablo and San Francisco bays as well as low-lying coastal areas…
