The undefeated Wilson American Legion junior baseball team found itself in its biggest hole of the 2026 season when Roanoke Post 164 Knights erupted for five runs in the top of the second inning to claim a 7-2 lead in the first game of a junior-senior Legion doubleheader in Fleming Stadium on Monday, June 15.
However, although trailing 9-4, Wilson fought back with its five-run spree in the bottom of the sixth inning to forge a 9-9 tie.
“We’ve done it (huge comeback) at least once before,” Wilson head coach Kevin Coach Pierce said. “I kept preaching that we were not out of it — if we played solid defense. The boys did not give up, and that’s what I am proudest of. They mounted a charge and made the comeback. I really needed to see what they’re made of.”…
