Afternoon gunfire tore through the Riverwalk Homes apartment complex in Joliet on Monday, leaving a 27-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman wounded and sending officers racing through nearby streets in search of a fleeing shooter. Police said both victims suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.
According to CBS Chicago, officers were called around 4:03 p.m. to Riverwalk Homes Apartments at 363 N. Broadway St., where they found the two 27-year-olds. The woman had been shot in the groin and the man in the right arm, and both were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police told CBS Chicago that a security guard at the complex fired his weapon after seeing the suspected shooter armed. Investigators collected spent shell casings at the scene before learning the suspect had escaped in a car. That vehicle was later located in the 1400 block of Dearborn Street in Aurora, where detectives obtained consent to search both the car and a nearby home.
