Volunteers invited for Valley of the Moon habitat restoration project

Volunteers are being invited to take part in a habitat restoration effort at Valley of the Moon Park in Anchorage, with a focus on improving native plant growth along creek and riparian areas.

The project, scheduled for Wednesday evening, aims to remove invasive mayday trees and eventually replace them with native vegetation over the coming years. Organizers say the effort is part of a long-term plan to restore balance to the park’s natural ecosystem.

“They seem to take over, especially in creek areas, riparian areas along creeks,” said volunteer ecologist Anne Billman. “They are very competitive and they outcompete the willows and the alders.”…
