Flock presents to Fort Wayne City Council, 2027 contract decision looms

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Automatic license plate readers are a growing subject across the country as the budding conversation pits public safety against privacy. That conversation took center stage in Fort Wayne on Tuesday as Flock Safety presented its services to Fort Wayne City Council.

“We’ve got a team that helps support things like this, answering questions in front of city council. Educating residents on what Flock Cameras do and don’t do,” said Holly Beilin, Flock representative. “When Fort Wayne PD (FWPD) reached out and asked us to be here tonight to help answer those questions, we of course prioritized it.”

The presentation comes as council faces a decision on whether to renew its Flock contract for 2027. The proponents of the camera technology point towards how prominent a tool it has been in Fort Wayne’s law enforcement arsenal…
