OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Most of Nebraska will miss out on rain with this next system. Instead, Nebraska gets a lot of wind, and the better rain chances will stay in Iowa.
It will be another wonderful summer evening in Omaha. There are more clouds coming in from the north, and a few light rain showers too. Those showers will struggle to reach the ground since dew points are in the mid 40s. At worst, you might see a brief sprinkle.
The low gets stronger and closer overnight. Isolated showers and storms develop after 4:00 AM, mainly north and east of the Omaha metro. Early morning commuters might see a few raindrops before they quickly move east.
The bigger story on Wednesday is the strong wind. There is a Wind Advisory in effect north and south of Omaha. It will still be windy in the metro, but the potential for wind gusts up to 50 mph is a little higher in either direction.
In the morning, it will be strong south winds in southeast Nebraska, reaching 45 to 50 mph at times. You might feel a little mugginess in the morning air. After a cold front swings through around midday, winds get strong out of the northwest, mainly in northeast Nebraska. Once again, there could be 50 mph gusts.
Before you go to bed on Tuesday, or very early Wednesday morning, be sure to tidy up a bit outside. Bring in any toys that could get blown around, patio cushions or light, plastic furniture, and it might be a good idea to put hanging flower baskets in a wind-proof place…
