Developers rush to meet housing demand in CNY for Micron, but building takes time

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse Realty Group developer Ozzie Crisalli said he’s already seeing Micron construction workers flock to his new David’s Landing Apartments in Clay, a mile away from the chip fab site.

“Over 20 percent of our tenants are Micron workers,” said Crisalli.

Construction started in January for Micron’s $100 billion semiconductor manufacturing factory in Clay, with 50,000 new jobs anticipated over the next 20 years. Syracuse Realty Group broke ground on its 96-unit apartment complex in 2023. But with Gov. Kathy Hochul saying earlier this month that the area will need a target of 30,000 new homes to meet Micron demand, new projects like this one are just the beginning…
