LIST: Baton Rouge area school, office closures due to severe weather

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Closures in the Baton Rouge area are being announced as Louisiana braces for heavy rain threatening flooding from Tropical Storm Arthur.

A Tropical Storm Warning was issued along the state’s coast. A Flood Watch is in effect for south Louisiana and southwest Mississippi through Friday.

Ascension Public Schools

All summer school classes will be canceled on Thursday due to possible impacts from Tropical Storm Arthur. The school system stated that all school and district offices will be closed, with no activities allowed.

“The safety of our students, employees, and families remains our top priority. We encourage everyone to monitor local weather forecasts and use caution when traveling, especially in areas prone to flooding,” school officials said.

Pointe Coupee Parish School Board

The school board and all public schools will be closed on Thursday due to severe weather. Classes, activities, and events will be canceled.
