YOUNGSTOWN — The Western Reserve Transit Authority is encouraging commuters to leave their vehicles at home Thursday for the 21st annual National Dump the Pump Day.
The nationwide campaign, created in 2006 by the American Public Transportation Association, highlights public transit to save money and lower vehicle emissions. Local transit officials say the initiative comes at a time when regional gasoline prices show notable differences across the state line.
According to AAA data released Thursday, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.94 in Ohio and $4.14 in Pennsylvania. In the Mahoning Valley, drivers are paying an average of $3.98 per gallon in Mahoning County, $3.81 in Trumbull County, and $3.83 in Columbiana County.
