JCPS official said ousted Shawnee principal was on vacation when we asked for details months ago. Records say differently.

As previously reported, Jefferson County Public Schools wrongfully withheld records of former Executive Principal Hollie Smith’s reassignment for months after a request from KyCIR. The news outlet put in two requests for the records in mid March: one five days after Smith was reassigned and another 11 days after.

When JCPS did not produce the reassignment letter, KyCIR reached out to JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan, saying rumors were circulating that Smith had left campus on March 31 due to an investigation, and asking for information about changes at Shawnee.

Callahan replied days later that on the day KyCIR inquired, March 31, 2026, Smith was out on a “prescheduled vacation.”…
