Habitual offender apprehended in southern section of The Villages

A habitual traffic offender from Inverness was arrested in the southern section of The Villages after a police officer spotted his expired license plate.

James Edward Borton, 48, of Inverness, was driving a blue Dodge Ram pickup shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Corbin Trail and LaGrange Loop in the Village of LaGrange when a Wildwood police officer noticed the vehicle’s tag had expired in December 2025.

During the traffic stop, Borton handed the officer a Florida identification card and admitted he did not have a valid driver’s license. He also failed to provide proof of motor vehicle liability insurance for the truck.

A check of Borton’s driving history revealed his license was initially revoked in April 2024 following a driving under the influence conviction. He has been classified as a habitual traffic violator the following month, triggering a 60-month suspension…
