Timeline and arrest
Officers were first sent to the area of South 62nd Street and South Tyler Street around 5:22 a.m. for reports of shots fired. At that point, police say they did not find any suspects or obvious suspicious activity.
The situation escalated later in the morning. Around 9:17 a.m., officers were called back after reports of a video that appeared to show a teenager firing a gun at Gray Middle School. Investigators say the person in the clip is a former student who had been expelled from the school months earlier.
Tacoma Police searched multiple locations across the county and eventually tracked the suspect to the 3800 block of South 66th Street. After a brief pursuit, officers took the juvenile into custody at about 10:53 a.m., according to The News Tribune.
