Granville Board of Elections backs early voting site relocations

The Tuesday, June 16, Granville Board of Elections meeting, expected to decide the fate of two early voting sites in Creedmoor and Oxford as well as a potential site in the northern end of the county, concluded with a slate of mixed votes. In a 3-2 majority, board members voted to move early voting sites away from downtown Oxford and Creedmoor and add an additional voting site in the north, as much of the crowd expressed disapproval.

According to the Board’s attorney, referencing North Carolina General Statutes 163-166.35, since there was no decisive unanimous approval on the voting site plan, the plan in its entirety will be sent up to the State Board of Elections to ultimately decide.

The meeting, which was held at the Granville County Convention and Expo Center, was filled from wall to wall with members of the public. The majority of the speakers were in strong opposition to the plan to move early voting sites…
