‘Definitely concerned’: Durham turns to Cary for Jordan Lake water supply amid drought

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Due to dry conditions, Durham’s water supply could run out in a few months without significant rain.

That’s because the city’s reservoirs, Lake Michie and Little River, are just over 50 percent full.

“We’ve had droughts before,” Durham Water Efficiency Program Manager James Lim said. “We had a significant drought in 2007 and 2008. That was kind of similar, I’d say. So we weathered that. The community came together, did what they needed to do to help save water. And that helped us make it until we were able to get that rain.”…
