Guilford County leaders weigh moratorium bill impact, consider potential tax rate increase: ‘Don’t like playing around with people’s lives’

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A bill on the governor’s desk has Guilford County leaders considering the potential impact on the budget.

The bill would freeze property values at their worth before a recent revaluation for several counties, including Guilford County. The bill would push back the use of reevaluation rates to 2027.

Making Sacrifices

Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners Skip Alston said this means they would not be able to take advantage of the reappraisals this year.

He said they will have to make sacrifices in the budget this year if Governor Stein signs the bill. He said the county will be limited to last year’s tax base to cover services. He said those funds will not be enough…
