A Southern California man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he stole a vehicle at knifepoint, struck numerous pedestrians during a reckless police pursuit, injured a police officer, and ultimately ended his rampage at a McDonald’s drive-thru in downtown Los Angeles.
According to law enforcement officials, 45-year-old Juan Luis Estrada of Perris, California, allegedly launched a dangerous chain of events on Tuesday evening that spanned multiple cities and left eight people injured.
Carjacking in Downtown Los Angeles
Investigators say the incident began when Estrada allegedly carjacked a white Toyota in downtown Los Angeles. Authorities reported that the vehicle was taken at knifepoint before Estrada drove away from the scene.
At that point, police had not yet begun pursuing the suspect.
