Motorcyclist in Federal Hill crash pleads not guilty

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The motorcyclist accused of speeding down a crowded Federal Hill street earlier this month while it was shut down to traffic faced a judge Thursday.

On June 6, 19-year-old Michael Carnevale, allegedly drove his motorcycle around barricades on Atwells Avenue, revved his engine and performed donuts during the Feast of Saint Joseph.

According to police, Carnevale weaved in and out of the crowd before someone threw a trash can in his direction, causing him lose control. He was knocked off and into the roadway, but the bike continued until it crashed into a tent. A bystander was injured and taken to the hospital as a result.
