PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — As America gets ready to celebrate its 250th birthday, Rhode Islanders will have a chance to see one of the state’s copies of the Declaration of Independence.
Secretary of State Gregg Amore and the Rhode Island 250 Commission announced they’ll be touring the treasured document around the state, with several events planned over the next few weeks.
“As one of the original thirteen colonies, Rhode Island is fortunate to have three remarkable copies of the Declaration of Independence — and as Rhode Islanders, we all have a right to see our history up close and in person,” Amore said in a press release. “I’m so appreciative of the hard work of the State Archives, the Rhode Island State Police, and our local partners to make these opportunities available to communities throughout our state.”…
