Bike ride across upstate N.Y. aims to raise gun violence awareness

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 75% of all homicides involve a firearm. While New York has one of the lowest rates of gun deaths in the country, advocates want to further protect our communities.

State data shows communities that have implemented the GIVE initiative have seen shootings fall nearly 65% since 2021. In Rochester, which according to RIT had one of the highest homicide rates in the country in 2022, gun violence is the lowest it’s been in about a decade.
