WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Skies will gradually clear and dry for the remainder of the Juneteenth holiday. Heading into Friday night, a cold front could kick up a few leftover showers and storms for the Cape Fear this afternoon and into the early evening.

Temps will peak in the lower 90s for the afternoons and as lows dip into the 60s to about 70 through Saturday night. Summer will officially arrive at 4:24 Sunday morning. Hotter and more humid conditions return as the workweek begins with highs in the middle 90s and heat index values back over 100. Thunderstorm chances ramp up heading into Tuesday and Wednesday, especially.
