Meet Reba the New Jaguar at Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo

As someone who grew up watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, I’ve been enjoying YouTube clips that work like miniature versions of episodes of that series. Fortunately, that’s affected my algorithm, and more of them are sent into my feed.

That’s why, every once in a while, I get the urge to go to a zoo. We’re fortunate to have an excellent one right here in the tri-state in Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden. Another great childhood memory: Mesker Park Zoo’s appeal has followed me into adulthood, and I love that it’s an easy drive to enjoy a day of animal gazing.

Mesker is also always making acquisitions, like their latest one, Reba, a young female jaguar born at a Baton Rouge zoo in 2024 who now calls Evansville home. Reba is magnificent and will soon be available for viewing once she’s grown accustomed to her surroundings. Reba will join 20-year-old Beliza and will be rotated in and out with her new enclosure mate.
