3,000 speeders in 3 weeks: Sherwood cameras to switch to citations

While motorists who race down Southwest Oregon Street near Hall Street in Sherwood might eventually get the message, many are still on a learning curve as speeding fines will begin being issued Monday, June 22.

That’s despite warnings on signs approaching the new speed cameras — which are in place near Hall Street — and a driver’s real-time speed posted as they approach the traffic enforcement devices.

“As of now we are at approximately 3,000 speed violators in the last three weeks,” Officer Paul Mattson, a spokesperson for the Sherwood Police Department, said Thursday, June 18. “The fastest speed so far is approximately 49 mph in the 25 mph zone.”…
